Corporate Responsibility Policy
Building on Global commitments
We are committed to working with the United Nations' Global Compact's (UNGC) ten principles on human and labour rights, protection of the environment and anti-corruption as well as the United Nation's Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). As the UNGC and the UNGPs are based on internationally recognised declarations and conventions, they provide a global level playing field for our worldwide operation Status on our CR work is publicly available on the Global Compact website as we submit our Communication on Progress to the UNGC.
Our Respect and Support for Human Rights including Labour Rights
As shipowner and operator, our operations have human rights impacts ashore as well as at sea. In our endeavours to respect human rights, we assess our impacts on rights as they are outlined in the International Bill of Human Rights (IBHR), including the International Labour Organisation's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (ILOD). In addition, we apply the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC) when assessing impacts related to crews onboard our vessels. Our assessments allow us to identify potential and actual adverse impacts, and thus enable us to prevent and mitigate such impacts best possible.
Our Respect and Support to Environment and Climate
Operating more than 150 vessels, we acknowledge that our operations have environmental impacts. In order to manage and minimise this, a specific environmental policy was implemented in 2009. The policy is aligned with the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and is embedded in our operational practices.
Our Respect and Support for Anti-corruption Principles
J. Lauritzen does not tolerate corrupt practices. Our Anti-Corruption Policy provides guidance for all managers and employees within the Group and is specified in our compliance programme in line with the principles laid out in the United Nation's Convention against Corruption and various national laws.
Our Responsibility in the Value Chain
We recognise that our responsibility goes beyond our own operations and extends into the greater value chain, and therefore it is part of our commitment to strive to influence our business partners to comply with internationally recognised minimum standards for responsible business conduct. Thus, we always endeavour to include our standard corporate responsibility clause in all contractual relations where we have the leverage.
Our expectations related to technical suppliers are further specified in our Supplier Code of Conduct, and we are committed to work with Responsible Supply Chain Management (RSCM) through our implementation of the IMPA ACT programme.
Policies in practice
We believe that part of a quality service is to conduct business in a responsible manner creating benefits broadly while being open, honest and fair in all our activities. This can only be achieved by living up to our policy commitments and promises. Therefore, we expect our employees to apply these policies in their daily work. We encourage our organisation to identify potential or actual adverse impacts from our services, operations or business relations.
In addition, we have implemented a whistleblower scheme, through which employees and other stakeholders can anonymously report severe negative impacts. Similarly, we expect all our relations to comply with the internationally recognised minimum standards on responsible business behaviour to avoid and address their adverse impacts on human rights including labour rights, the environment and anti-corruption principles.
This Corporate Responsibility Policy is reflected and embedded in relevant policies and procedures.
